A Phenomenon Only Slightly Strange
A Phenomenon Only Slightly Strange contains three texts that explore aspects of the UFO phenomenon as it relates to the peripheral and postcolonial states of Ireland and Cyprus. In this moment of an ending order and perceived collapse, the UFO does not manifest offering solutions to the periphery, but rather it undermines forgone conclusions. Proposing futures that never arrived, pasts that are suppressed and challenging agreed upon truths.
WITH REPORTS OF UFO ACTIVITY INCREASING, CAN WE REALLY AFFORD TO IGNORE THE QUESTIONS THAT THEY RAISE?

About Cóilín O’Connell
Cóilín O’Connell is an artist from and living in Dublin. He works across a range of media working including sculpture, video, drawing and writing. Through a process of assembling and editing found and original image, object and text his work considers antagonisms between the methodical and the poetic for proposing pasts, presents and futures. A recurring theme in his practice is the contradictions embedded in collecting, interpreting and presenting cultural materials, his work both utilises and reflects on these processes. He is a current artist in residence at Fire Station Artists Studios and is supported by the Arts Council.
